AWARDS: Digest by Gregory Pardlo Wins the Pulitzer Prize in Poetry

Congratulations to poet Gregory Pardlo who was recently awarded the covetous Pulitzer Prize in Poetry for his 2014 collection, Digest (Four Way Books)!

About the Poet

Gregory Pardlo is the author of Totem, which received the APR/Honickman Prize in 2007, and Digest, (Four Way Books, 2014), which was nominated for the 2015 NAACP Image Award in poetry. His poems have appeared in American Poetry Review, Boston Review, The Nation, Ploughshares, and Tin House, as well as anthologies including Angles of Ascent, the Norton Anthology of Contemporary African American Poetry, and two editions of Best American Poetry. He is the recipient of a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship and a fellowship for translation from the National Endowment for the Arts. An Associate Editor of Callaloo, he is currently a Teaching Fellow in Undergraduate Writing at Columbia University.

Jacqueline Woodson's Brown Girl Dreaming Takes Center Stage

Children’s author Jacqueline Woodson’s Brown Girl Dreaming has received a number of accolades this year, breaking barriers for diversity in children’s books.  Brown Girl Dreaming, a memoir, won this year’s National Book Award in the Young People’s Literature category.  Jacqueline Woodson discussed Brown Girl Dreaming on MSNBC’s Melissa Harris Perry Show last week.  Brown Girl Dreaming reveals the childhood and coming of age of Jacqueline Woodson during the 1960s and 70s.  The story is set in the places where Woodson grew up:  Columbus, Ohio, Greenville, South Carolina and Brooklyn, New York.  NPR recently interviewed Jacqueline Woodson about details of her life in Brown Girl Dreaming.  Brown Girl Dreaming has been named among the New York Times’ Notable Children’s Books of 2014.

Jacqueline Woodson is the author of 27 other titles, including picture books, books for middle grade readers and young adult books.  Woodson has previously been honored with The Newberry Honor Medal, Coretta Scott King Award, The Caldecott Medal, ALA Notable and Margaret A.
